Guam International Airport, which has been suspended due to the damage of the ‘Super Typhoon’, will resume operations from the 29th.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Guam’s local international airport will resume operation at 3:00 pm (local time) on Monday, the 29th.”
“In addition, the national flag (Korean Air) will arrive in Guam at 5:00 pm on the 29th and depart for Incheon at 7:00 pm,” he said.
Guam authorities said they were recovering with the goal of resuming airport operations on the 30th, but as the damage was repaired faster than expected, normalization of the airport was also accelerated.
About 3,400 Korean tourists were stranded in Guam, a Pacific resort hit by Typhoon Mawar, when the international airport was closed on the evening of the 22nd.
When Guam International Airport operations are normalized, Korean tourists are expected to arrive in Korea from the night of the 29th.
However, it will take some time for them all to return home.
A total of 6 flights are operated by 4 airlines – Korean Air, Jin Air, Jeju Air, and T’way – on the Incheon-Guam route.
Meanwhile, there are about 5,000 Koreans living in Guam, and there have been no reports of damages to Koreans yet.
