JALISCO.- This Sunday, for the third consecutive year, the commemoration of the municipal day of “La Torta Ahogada” was held on the Paseo Alcalde in the center of the city of Guadalajara.
In June 2022, the Guadalajara council unanimously approved the initiative presented by Pablo Lemus Navarro, to make September 10 of each year the Municipal Day of the Torta Ahogada.
In this third edition, around 30 cake makers distributed more than 25 thousand tortas ahogadas and tacos dorados.
In his message, Governor-elect Pablo Lemus expressed his enthusiasm for the community’s response and the positive impact of this event that is here to stay.
“Our traditional dish, which is recognized throughout the world, finds its true home here in Guadalajara, the only place where you can enjoy authentic tortas ahogadas. This sets us apart and fills us with pride,” he said.
The goal is not only to celebrate the unique flavor of tortas ahogadas, but also to strengthen the sense of belonging and the promotion of local gastronomy, reaffirming Guadalajara as the birthplace of this unparalleled delicacy.
On this occasion, tastings of soft drinks and non-alcoholic beer were held, as a result of the collaboration with the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (CANIRAC) Jalisco, and sponsors such as Aga and Heineken.
Around 35,000 people attended this celebration in the Historic Center.
Present were personalities such as Francisco Ramírez Salcido, Interim Mayor of Guadalajara; Gregorio Godoy Ramírez, President of CANIRAC Jalisco; Antonio Lancaster-Jones González, Coordinator of the Council of Industrial Chambers of Jalisco (CCIJ); among others.
“The day of the torta ahogada is here to stay, our traditional dish that distinguishes us throughout the world, because the only place where there are tortas ahogadas is in Guadalajara and that distinguishes us. I want to thank the trust of the people, of the cake makers who accompanied us today, more than 25 thousand tortas were distributed and this was to enjoy our traditional torta Ahogada” said Pablo Lemus.
