Spain can boast of having a long tradition as manufacturer of cars. One of them was even a hyperdeportivo that had little to envy of those from the big brands and that, over time, has fallen into oblivion: What happened to GTA Spanish?
In 1994 the dream of Sunday Ochoa. This mechanic and businessman wanted to build a Spanish supercar and to start shaping it created Spain GTA. Years later, in 2007, started the development of GTA Spano designed by Sento Pallardó.
After a first private presentation in 2008 featuring a prototype and a small group of customers, its official debut took place at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. A couple of years later production started and in 2015, at the same event, the brand showed the second generation of this hyperdeportivo.
GTA Spano was powered by a V10 of 7.9 liters mounted in a longitudinal rear position: it developed a power of 925 CV and a motor torque of 1220 Nm. He was associated with a automatic gearbox seven-speed with paddles on the steering wheel and a rear-wheel drive system.
With these features, it reached a maximum speed of 370 km/h and went from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. Furthermore, he equipped a electronic control system of the power supplied to regulate the force delivered from a minimum of 450 HP to the maximum.
A car with personality
The casing that protected the V10 was a monocoque structure made of carbon fiber, graphene, titanium and Kevlar, while the body was made of carbon fiber. As a result, the weight of GTA Spano was 1.400 kilos. As for the rest of the dimensions, it measured 4.68 meters long, 1.98 meters wide, 1.18 meters high and its battle length reached 2.8 meters.
The exterior design of the GTA Spano exuded personality: it is that of a supercar so aerodynamic as aggressive. Its front is striking with a domed hood, two large side air inlets and a profiled area to facilitate air flow.
His profile highlights his doors, integrated into a very marked arch, and at the rear the spoiler integrates perfectly into the design. It gives way to two air inlets and the double exhaust outlet, which, like the diffuser, emphasize its sporty character.
The interior of the GTA Spano is an exhibition of materials (carbon fiber, leather…) and elements (three-spoke steering wheel, seats…) that emanate sportsmanship. It was equipped with a instrument panels customizable and a center screen seven-inch, which houses the infotainment system. And all this under a panoramic glass roof, whose opacity could be regulated.
From 99 to 12 units
According to its creator, the GTA Spano was born to compete with “artisanal brands such as Pagani or Koenigsegg.” The initial print run was going to be 99 units, but, finally, only 12 were made: each one had a price of 1.1 million euros.
Of that dozen, 10 copies belonged to the first generation: apparently, two were lost in the homologation and reliability tests and the rest they would have been sold outside of Spain (four in Singapore, two in China and one in the United States). In addition, a prototype participated in the film Need for Speed. The remaining two were from the second generation, but one was destroyed during homologation tests.
What happened to GTA Spanish?
Los economic problems They appeared shortly after the birth of GTA Spano. So much so that, in recent years, they have auctioned some of the copies to be able to deal with debts and lack of liquidity.
Not in vain, Sunday Ochoa has recently been on the program Horizonte de Cuatro, where he explained that It’s ruined. However, he has assured that he will pay all his debts because, from abroad, offers have come to him to produce GTA Spano.
