The last weekend alternated hot and cold for the Quebec driver Mikaël Grenier who distinguished himself in an event of the GT World Challenge America series at the Watkins Glen circuit in New York state. The Winward Racing team duo, made up of Grenier and Russell Ward, finished third in the first race of the weekend, but had to retire in the second.
Once again, the GT3-only series races were the business of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3s entered by the K-Pax team, as Jordan Pepper and Andrea Caldarelli won both events, increasing their lead in first place. of the championship.
In the first test, however, Grenier believes that he and Ward could have won. He confides: “in the qualifying session, I could have taken pole position, but I got caught in traffic and then I made a mistake on my fastest lap. Then, in the race, Russell was stuck behind Corey Lewis (on the second Lamborghini from K-Pax Racing) during his stint, even though he was faster ”. Ward and Lewis were the only two riders on the track when the pits opened, continuing their battle, while their rivals made their mandatory stop. Finally, at the end of his pit stop for a change of driver and refueling, Grenier was able to place his Mercedes AMG-GT3 (photo above) in front of the K-Pax Racing Lamborghini.
“The rest of the race went well, but the other two ahead of the race ran away so I couldn’t catch up with them” confides Mikaêl speaking of the winners and the runner-up, the BMW M6 GT3 of Turner Motorsport driven by Michael Dinan and Robby Foley.
Note also in Pro / Am the victory of Taylor Hagler and Jacob Abel, on an Acura NSX GT3 from Racers Edge Motorsports. Discover the full classification of race 1 here.
During the second event, Mikaël Grenier took the start from 3rd position. He says: “I had an excellent start, and I won a place. However, from the third corner, the car had mechanical problems and a brake disc exploded on the following straight. It was abandonment. It’s a shame, because we were very fast ”.
It was therefore Pepper and Caldarelli who reiterated their victory of the day before, in front of the sister car driven by Corey Lewis and Giovanni Venturini. It is a car from the Pro / Am junkyard, prepared by the former Toronto team Compass Racing, which finished in the Top 3, namely the Acura NSX GT3 of Michael Di Meo and Matt McMurry. In 4th position, but 3rd in Pro class, the BMW M6 GT3 of Robby Foley and Michael Dinan. Check out the full race 2 results here.
