Grzegorz Turnau – concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of the sensational debut!

Grzegorz Turnau celebrates the 40th anniversary of his debut.

The outstanding composer, vocalist and pianist will perform in the final concert of the jubilee XL Tour together with distinguished guests. It promises to be an evening full of memories and wonderful music. The event will take place in the cultural mecca of Polish artists, the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera on March 24, 2025. Tickets available at www.biletserwis.pl.

40 years ago, at the age of 17, Grzegorz Turnau won the first prize at the prestigious Student Song Festival in Kraków, while still… a high school student! The press at the time hailed him as the sensation of the jubilee 20th competition and the successor of Marek Grechuta. Piotr Ferster, the director of Piwnica pod Baranami, was delighted with him. Shortly afterwards, the novice singer joined the legendary Piwnica – a forge of Kraków artists. He was associated with it for 13 years. In 1991, Grzegorz Turnau’s debut album “Naróż nie dzieje się nic” was released, which included, among other things, the title song and the song with which he won the student festival “Znów wędrujemy”. Since then, he has released 16 solo albums and participated in dozens of other phonographic projects.

He regularly and intensively performs concerts. Currently, he is usually accompanied on stage by a band of several people, as well as chamber string ensembles. He collaborates with many outstanding artists, including Anna Maria Jopek, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Aga Zaryan, Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz, Andrzej Sikorowski, Stanisław Soyka. He has recently found his place in duets with vocalists of the younger generation: Sanah, Taco Hemingway and Igor Herbut, being a special guest at their concerts.

He composes music for film and theatre, collaborating for many years with director Jarosław Kilian, among others. He is also the author of larger musical forms and has been the musical director of Teatr Lalka in Warsaw since 2016. Although he was born and lives in Kraków, he has been associated since childhood with the city of Inowrocław, of which he received honorary citizenship in 2013, as well as with the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, where Winnica Turnau is located, founded by the Turnau family – Zbigniew, Grzegorz and Jacek.

Grzegorz Turnau has won many awards, including 9 Fryderyk, 2 Wiktor, and the Grand Prix of the Opole Festival. He also received the Gloria Artis medal and the Golden Cross of Merit. In 2016, he was awarded the City of Krakow Award in the field of culture and art.

The year 2024 is special for Grzegorz Turnau, as it marks 40 years since his artistic debut in Kraków. On this occasion, he will be giving concerts as part of the XL jubilee tour, which will culminate in a final performance at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in 2025.

– Time is a strange invention – no one has seen it or touched it, and yet everyone measures it. 40 years have passed – it sounds like a song. And since I travel through life with songs – I quite naturally measure my time with them. I am glad that I will be able to do it at the Teatr Wielki, in the company of friends – says Grzegorz Turnau.

In the final concert, Grzegorz Turnau will certainly sing his well-known and beloved songs: “Znów wędrujemy”, “Bracka”, “Między ciszą a ciszą”, “Naróż nie dzieje się nic”, “Liryka, liryka”, as well as premiere songs from his new album. The jubilarian will also perform with friendly artists, specially invited to the event in Warsaw.
The concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Grzegorz Turnau’s creative work will take place on March 24, 2025 at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. Tickets are already available at www.biletserwis.pl. The event will be organized by the Prestige MJM agency.
