Grussmann returns to Baník. He will be a sports manager. It’s time for a change, he explained

“From the moment Marek Jankulovski ended up in the role of sports director, Alois Grussmann was our number one choice. In Opava, a lot of quality work remained behind him. We are pleased that the interest was mutual and that we were able to find common ground with him and Opava. And last but not least, of course, I believe that together we can take Baník one step further again, “said Michal Bělák, Executive Director of FC Baník Ostrava.

“I feel that after almost seven years in the managerial chair of Silesian FC, it is time for a change not only for me, but also for the club. This was not the first offer from Baník and I feel that it is the ideal time for a change. A new challenge awaits me, and I will be closer to my family, which was also important for me in my decision-making, “explains Grussmann, who worked in Opava as a player and now as an official for seven years.

“Lojza and I had wonderful seasons here, including advancing to the league. On behalf of the whole club, I would like to thank him for the excellent work he did for Slezský FC. I admit that his decision to quit surprised me at first, but after a personal interview I have to say that I understand him and I respect his decision, “says the director of Silesian FC Opava, Jaroslav Rovňan.

Kováč will probably take on the role of sports manager in Opava

The people of Opava already have a replacement for the position of sports manager. “Radoslav Kováč is now taking over these competencies. We will move to the English model, where he will be a coach and a manager in one person. I believe that it will work, “explains Rovňan.

Grussmann has already gone through Baník three times in his playing career. First at the pupils ‘and adolescents’ age, then in the 1984/1985 season and at Bazaly, he also spent several months after returning from his engagement in Betis Sevilla, Spain, in the autumn of 1992. However, he spent most of his football career in Vítkovice and Opava.

“I really left a piece of my life in Opava, we played the final of the cup, when we missed only one step since participating in the European League. This and both procedures – from MSFL to the second league, and then returning to the first league – were wonderful experiences for me that I will never forget. It wasn’t always ideal in Silesian FC, but I never wanted to leave the club when he wasn’t well. Now Opava is in one of the most successful eras in history. And what makes me happy is that people work for the club, who are a guarantee for me that Silesian FC Opava will constantly develop and move on, “said Grussmann.
