Upper Austria with regional light rail and 1-2-3-Ticket by rail
Vienna (OTS) – “The most important, most promising rail project for Upper Austria is in the towel,” said Hermann Weratschnig, traffic spokesman for the Greens, about the successful conclusion of the contract in Upper Austria. “In addition to the 1-2-3 climate ticket itself, Upper Austrians will also get an improved, innovative public transport infrastructure with the Linz-Gallneukirchen-Pregarten regional tram in the coming years and thus additional incentives for commuters to use To drive ‘Tram-Train’ to Linz instead of standing in a traffic jam on the S10 and A7 ”, explains Weratschnig.
The 1-2-3 climate ticket and the expansion of public transport in Austria are picking up speed, now the state of Upper Austria is also on board. Climate protection minister Leonore Gewessler and Upper Austria’s governor Thomas Stelzer signed the corresponding agreements in Linz today and thus “reached another milestone in the direction of the public transport revolution for Austria”, as Weratschnig notes.
In the city as a tram, in the open air as a train – these are the new “tram-trains” that will be used on the regional light rail route. “The innovative concept combines the advantages of both systems in order to connect the communities in the north-east of Linz to the state capital more quickly and conveniently. This not only brings advantages for commuters, but also for all city users and especially for our environment and climate protection ”, the traffic spokesman for the Greens is convinced. The expansion of the regional light rail system is financed jointly by the federal government, the state and the city of Linz.
