The Easter holiday is usually synonymous with good food and good drink, and for many alcohol.
Throughout the winter, the most popular winter destinations in the country offer après ski, and at Easter the ski season ends with a whole week of skiing – and too many – drinking.
Then it can be difficult to be the one who chooses to be sober. The TV profile Grunde Myhrer (27) has long been open and clear that he does not drink alcohol.
– Never tasted alcohol
He hopes that people can be good at respecting those who choose not to drink, and normalize it.
No, thank you
– Drinking is quite strong in Norwegian culture, and I understand that it is part of Norway. But there is no hiding the fact that Norway has a quite different drinking culture to other countries, says Myhrer to Dagbladet.
He himself has received several reactions for saying no to alcohol, he says.
– Very familiar
– It is without a doubt taboo. You are often looked at strangely if you don’t drink, especially for those who may not want to drink for an evening or a shorter period. It’s a shame that you have to explain yourself.
Therefore, he emphasizes that it is important to accept and respect people’s wishes.
– There are some who think I’m a really boring person because I don’t drink. I just hope that people take a little care of each other this Easter, and enjoy themselves – both with and without alcohol.
The 27-year-old himself has felt under pressure to drink several times, but he emphasizes that he has been confident in his choice throughout.
– A little history
– People can have many different reasons for not drinking, and then it is very unfortunate that you have to answer for yourself.
– Goes both ways
He believes that there has been promotion of alcohol and drugs in Norway for a long time, but that it is perhaps more evident now.
Was put out after recording
– It’s not necessarily a new phenomenon, we’ve had well-known artists in, for example, rock and hip hop who have worked the way après-ski and russel songs are today, but it’s undoubtedly more visible in a different way now. especially with social media.
That is why Myhrer thinks it is important and spoke loudly about his choice not to drink and hopes that it can contribute to a greater acceptance of not drinking.
– It’s not like I expect everyone to do as I do. I just think it’s important to strike a balance, and generally drink to enjoy yourself, not to get drunk.
– Was thrown into it
He adds:
– Then I hope that it can be easier for people to opt out of alcohol if they wish. Simply respect each other’s choices, but it goes both ways.
