Gruissan: noble art and footwork for eternal adolescents

Since the start of the school year, a new discipline has completed the range offered by the MJC. “Getting back into shape through boxing for seniors” is led by Patrice Picole, coach with a BPJEPS in combat sport.

The sessions take place in the dojo room on Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are intended for people over 50 who want to continue or resume a sporting activity and energize their daily lives. Very popular beyond the Pyrenees where rooms dedicated to seniors are multiplying, this practice is starting to develop in our territory. The MJC de Gruissan is part of this trend which is not just a fad. Boxing indeed has many advantages that Patrice develops with passion: “Boxing is the ideal sport for maintaining good physical and mental health. In addition to the muscle strengthening inherent in all sports, it optimizes the cardiovascular system (the famous “cardio”) of course, but it also helps improve balance, coordination and reflexes Furthermore, it is excellent for managing stress (punching bag exercises allow you to decompress and release tension while letting go), improve confidence, control and self-esteem. (in boxing, you always go to the limit of your abilities and a little beyond). Finally, the practice of boxing stimulates concentration and memory (the exercises in pairs link the movements into a real choreography).” The discipline is aimed at men and women, from 50 years old and without age limit, if the physical condition of the practitioner allows it. An unconditional fan, Marie-Laure specifies: “ Thanks to boxing, I blocked my counter at 16, even if my marital status shows 74. After a boxing class, I am exhausted, that’s for sure, but invigorated and energized, as if my adolescence was eternal “.
