On Sunday afternoon, July 2, employees at a hotel in Sapporo on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido made a gruesome discovery. In a bathtub in one of the rooms, there was a headless corpse.
The scene of the crime is in the city’s more dubious areas. Japan’s NHK News refers to it as a “love hotel”, where the check-in time is quick.

The body belonged to a 62-year-old local man. According to NHK News, the police seized surveillance footage which showed that he arrived at the hotel with a much younger woman the night before.
Three hours later, the same woman checked out again, carrying a black suitcase.

Shortly after the macabre discovery, Kyodo News reported that the police believed the suitcase in the video recording contained the deceased’s head and clothes.
The news media further wrote that the victim had first been killed, then decapitated with a cutting tool.
Sky News refers to local media which state that none of the victim’s belongings were found in the room. The hotel bed was not used either.

According to Sky News, there have been new developments in the macabre murder case.
The police have arrested a 29-year-old woman and her parents, suspected of killing the man and then smuggling his head out of the hotel.

Local media write that the police in Hokkaido have searched the home of the woman’s parents.
The police have not yet confirmed whether there was a relationship between the victim and the woman, or what motive the suspects may have had. The head is still missing, according to the police, according to CNN.
