The growth in the number of new corona cases in Belgium continues to slow down, but the number of new deaths is on the rise. This may have to do with the heat.

In the period from 4 to 10 August, an average of 605.7 people a day became infected with the corona virus. This is an increase of 9 percent compared to the previous seven days, according to the daily update from health institute Sciensano on Friday. In total, 76,191 people in our country have already tested positive since the start of the pandemic.
While the number of new infections seems to have stabilized for several days, the total number of deaths from COVID-19 in our country has risen to 9,916. That’s 16 more than what was reported by Sciensano on Thursday. In the period from 4 to 10 August, an average of 5.3 patients died every day, an increase of 95 percent on a weekly basis.
At the beginning of this week, the number of deaths from the corona virus suddenly increased. A specific cause for this is currently unclear, but the heat wave of the past days may play a role. That said epidemiologist Brecht Devleesschauwer of health institute Sciensano on Thursday.
Hospital admissions increased by 15 percent over the same period to an average of 28.3 admissions per day. On Thursday there were 309 COVID-19 patients (+8) in the hospital. About 74 patients (-2) were in intensive care, of which 42 (+2) need to be ventilated.
