Growth in Salvadoran tourism boosts the Latin American sector – Diario La Página – 2024-02-14 14:50:28

Data from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) indicated that more than 3.4 million foreign visitors received El Salvador in 2023, which positioned it as the fourth country in the world with the highest growth in this area last year.

This number of visitors left the country with an economic flow of $3,793 million in foreign currency, and positioned the sector as the second largest economic driver of the gross domestic product (GDP) until the third quarter of the previous year.

With these numbers, El Salvador became, along with Colombia, Curacao, and the Dominican Republic, one of the four destinations that are driving the growth of tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean, as considered by the executive director of UN Tourism, Natalia Bayona, in a recent interview.

In addition, BCR data mention that these countries are also emerging as the most attractive destinations for this year.

“Latin America in general has great potential in the development of the sector,” says the executive cited by Bloomberg, adding that it is the emerging markets that are driving a good part of the recovery of global tourism, and generating positive projections for 2024. .
