Growth: Bamboo Airways wants twelve Boeing 777X

The young Vietnamese airline’s drive to expand has not been satisfied. Bamboo Airways plans to order twelve Boeing 777Xs.

It worked at the end of January: after previous breakdowns in a static test on the ground and difficulties with the engine, the Boeing 777X took off for its maiden flight with a delay of around ten months. But in addition to the first flight, the manufacturer had long had no success with the long-haul plane. The last order was made a year ago.

In February 2019, British Airways ordered 18 copies of the 777-9 and also secured 24 options for the modernized version of the long-haul classic. Lufthansa took the opposite path last November and converted 14 orders into options. Boeing currently has 309 firm orders, more than half of which are for Emirates.

Order in the second quarter

Now, however, the manufacturer is receiving a new order, even from a new customer. Bamboo Airways plans to order twelve Boeing 777X, CEO Trinh Van Quyet told Bloomberg. The order will be placed in the second quarter, said the manager of the young Vietnamese airline.

Bamboo Airways was launched a year ago and today operates a fleet of 14 Airbus A320s, seven A321s, one A319s and three Boeing 787-9s. The Vietnamese will get seven more Dreamliners. They are planning a fleet of 100 aircraft by 2024.
