Klaipėda Youth Theater (KJT) starts its 11th season in autumn. It includes not only performances already loved by theatergoers and critics, but also premieres of works by Lithuanian and French directors, new vinyl records and space to get to know the country’s youngest theater generation.
in 2012 KJT, founded by the director and actor, LMTA professor Valentin Masalskis, is one of the few independent theaters in Lithuania, the basis of which is not a famous director, but an active, hardworking and creative troupe of fifteen actors. Although the actors are consistently developing their personal careers on the music and theater stages, film sets and in pedagogical activities, the core gathered during the years of study is still holding fast – KJT is the main home of the activities and creativity of the young generation of actors. Director and actor Kiril Glushaev says that this type of theater operation is extremely attractive, and directors should be interested in working with a proactive and independent team of actors. Already in mid-September, we will see how ingenious the results of this work can look.
After colorfully celebrating a decade of KJT’s activity last year, the second decade will begin on the theater stage with the grand autumn premiere on September 16 – Kirill Glušaev’s performance “Life is still in front of our eyes”. The master of improvisation, the artistic director of the “Kitas Kampas” theater K. Glušajevas is collaborating with the KJT troupe for the first time and will present the theater audience with a play about the joys and sorrows of today’s thirties.
“The thirtieth year of a person’s life is interesting because a person who has reached this age already has something to feel nostalgia for and miss, but at the same time, he needs to make many important decisions that will determine the further course of his life. Using documentary and improvisational theater work methods, the KJT troupe explores this topic, which is very close to the actors as well – they themselves belong to this age group,” says director K. Glušaev about the upcoming premiere.
French theater and opera director and actor Didier Girauldon will also come to prepare for another season premiere with the KJT troupe. Having fulfilled his creative ideas in various European countries, the USA and Canada, D. Girauldon is preparing to present a play in Lithuania based on the play of the German playwright Anja Killing. In the center of its action are privileged, talented and successful people, whose beautiful facade image is given more depth and dark colors by unexpected circumstances. This will be the director’s first work at the Klaipėda Youth Theater.
The girl group “Graži ir ta galinga” assembled by KJT actors, successfully touring all over Lithuania, is not slowing down either. This season, they will please fans of their concerts-performances not only with a wide geography of performances, but also with a new, second vinyl record for the group. It will contain all the latest songs of the band’s Mimosas and Sirens program.
This season, KJT has included in its repertoire the performances of the youngest Lithuanian theater professionals presented at the “Young Theater Days” festival. Graduates of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, who completed acting studies at the Faculty of Klaipėda this year, presented their diploma works at the “Young Theater Days” festival. For the KJT team, it is important that the carefully thought-out works of students with high artistic value do not remain dusty on the shelves and enter the Lithuanian theater scene. This year, KJT’s repertoire will be supplemented by 4 graduate works of LMTA graduates presented at the festival – the performances “Art”, “Summer Day”, “Human Voice” and “Chaos”.
