Growing up in a family of doctors creates a special bond with the film. Maija Doveika for her role in ‘Mother’s milk’

Actress Maija Doveika grew up in a family of doctors, but in the film “Mother’s milk”, which will be released at the beginning of February, she plays the main role – a young, promising and talented gynecologist Astra, who comes into conflict with the Soviet regime. The fact that the actress’s mother is a dentist, and her father, a therapist, helped her in creating the role and the memories of the environment of doctors created a special connection with the film.

As Doveika told at the press conference dedicated to the film “Mother’s milk”, while reading Nora Iksten’s novel, scenes from her childhood, when she spent a lot of time at her parents’ workplaces, flashed before her eyes. The actress admits that doctors’ overalls give her a sense of security.

On the other hand, the director of the film, Inara Kolmane, emphasizes that she feels the breath of the Soviet era on the back of her head when she sees what is happening in Ukraine. “The Soviet background was very important to me in the film, to remind us how we really lived back then.”

It has already been reported that director Ināra Kolmanes’ film “Mother’s milk” will be shown on Latvian cinema screens from February 2.
