Growing dissatisfaction with malaise on the railways: perhaps not one, but three days of strike this month | Interior

InteriorSocial discontent is brewing on the railway. After the strike announced by the three largest unions on 29 November, the train drivers union ASTB is now also issuing a strike notice for 30 November and 1 December.

Particularly great is the discontent with the malaise on the railways, writes De Morgen. ACOD Spoor, ACV Transcom and VSOA Spoor yesterday denounced that too little investment is being made and too little effort is being made to eliminate the personnel shortage – around 300 technicians and machinists. As a result, employees have to work a lot of overtime, while their vacation requests are rejected. They threaten a strike on November 29th.

But the annoyance for travelers could be even greater. The minor train drivers union ASTB also plans to strike, but then on November 30 and December 1. In its strike notice, the union calls on all train drivers to take action “with an initial 48-hour break from work”. Not only to denounce the high working pressure, but also the precariousness.

“During the first half of this year, the number of signal breaches increased by 83 percent,” President Tiffanny Deruiter said in the announcement. “This is unacceptable. Security is compromised.

Whether this will actually happen remains to be seen. There is Friday a mediation meeting planned between management and unions.
