In an article on the site of GeenStijl various (former) Forum members (partly anonymous) accuse Cliteur of not intervening when the stories about anti-Semitic statements by youth members and Baudet himself surfaced. They argue that they have raised the alarm at Cliteur, who was then still party leader in the Senate.
According to the complainants, Cliteur dismissed the statements as “silliness”, possibly fueled by “a few bottles of wine”. He would have talked to Baudet about it once, but when he had declared that he did not think or feel Nazi, Cliteur would have finished.
Solidarity
Cliteur gave up his senate seat on Tuesday because he said he lacked the motivation to continue. He did, however, declare his solidarity with Baudet and his ideological line.
Today he will comment on that a message on LinkedIn that he meant that he endorses the ideological line of Forum as it is in the election program. “Obviously, Cliteur does not endorse the bad statements in messages that pop up in youth app groups that some believe to have heard of Baudet in private situations,” the statement he made in the third person.
About the accusation that he has done too little against anti-Semitism and that he has downplayed it, Cliteur says when asked: “It is a pity that GeenStijl did not want to check anything with me before publishing it.”
