It’s not quite a new virus, but contaminations have been on the rise in the United States for some years now. First discovered in 1962 in California, this virus is transmitted through saliva and mucus. If it can take the form of a simple cold in adults, children are more prone to severe forms. The virus can indeed damage the spinal cord as well cause a condition known as acute flaccid myelitiswhich weakens the muscles and can sometimes cause paralysis.
