Both before and during Christmas, several posts have appeared on social media where people express that they feel left out.
The next few weeks will consist of several social gatherings, and this leads to the feeling of loneliness increasing among many.
This shocks twenty-year-old Amanda Petryszyn from Kristiansund.
Together with the girl group of six, she publishes a post on two of the largest Norwegian girl groups on Facebook.
There she invites everyone who needs a place to be on New Year’s Eve to come to the New Year’s party in the center of Kristiansund together with the girl gang.
– If you sit alone on an evening such as New Year’s Eve, then the feeling of being alone will probably be greatly intensified. Nobody should have to sit alone on an evening like this, says Petryszyn.
She believes that the younger generation often feels a stronger sense of alienation due to social media.
And that it is therefore all the more important to be inclusive.
– It becomes much clearer if you constantly see pictures of lots of people together – both on Snapchat, Instagram and other social media.
Lots of reactions
During the posts, the girl group receives several positive reactions.
– We received several comments from people who thought this was nicely done, she says.
Through the posts, Petryszyn has also come into contact with two people who wanted to make more friends in Kristiansund.
– They were added to a group on Snapchat together with the others who will be celebrating together on New Year’s Eve. There we could talk together and get to know each other a bit, she says.
Inspired by Norwegian influences
One of the reasons why Petryszyn and the group of friends published an open party invitation on Facebook was because they had noticed the Norwegian influencer Erika Norwich from Tronheim, who collected money at Spleis to buy Christmas gifts, food and other contributions to be able to invite strangers for Christmas two years ago.
This year she also invited 30 strangers to a joint Christmas celebration at Bakklandet in Trondheim.
– I thought it was nicely done, and I was inspired. It is really positive to have influencers who do such things, she says.
– We are going to have fun
The group of friends have spent several days decorating and getting ready for the celebration in Kristiansund.
– We have decorated a lot, and then we have arranged for a separate picture wall – which can be filled up with pictures from the evening, says Petryszyn.
Petryszyn says that the evening will consist of partying and coziness.
– We are going to enjoy ourselves, party and watch fireworks, she says.
She points out that they still have room for more if someone is sitting alone tonight.
– It seems that this will be a success. This is definitely something we want to do again, says Petryszyn.
