Heavy damage was done to a cafe on the Scharlo in Alkmaar tonight. At that time there were supporters of AZ inside, but also other guests. The police speak of a group of at least forty men who ‘brought the whole thing to pieces’ and that ‘chairs and tables were thrown’. The spokesperson said no one has been arrested yet.

Several sources tell NH Nieuws that hooligans from another football club are responsible for the destruction. This is also suggested on social media. The police could not confirm this and an investigation has been launched.
The vandalism happened around 8 p.m., before the start of the Alkmaar club’s home match against Heracles. The owner of the cafe confirms to NH Nieuws that there are a few AZ fans inside at that time. He said no one was injured, but declined to comment.
A police spokesman said a report was received of dozens of people who smashed all the windows at the front and bicycles and furniture flew through the cafe.
‘Bar stools through the tent’
“There were forty to fifty men and they smashed things to pieces, bar stools went through the tent.” When the agents arrive, the group has already left.
The neighborhood has been searched and several cars have been parked on, for example, the Geestersingel. The occupants had to identify themselves. This has so far not resulted in any arrests, police said.
