More than 5,000 people come together in Freiburg

According to the organization, the largest demonstration in Baden-Württemberg will take place in Freiburg. According to the police, more than 5,000 people have gathered here to demonstrate together. The start was at 12 noon on Friedrichstrasse. The demonstrators then marched through the city center, including through Kaiser-Joseph-Strasse. The demo ended again at Friedrichstrasse. There is a hygiene concept. The organizers pointed out that everyone must keep their distance and wear a mask. They called for the use of FFP2 masks.

1,000 participants expected in Lörrach

The climate protection organization is also planning demonstrations in other cities. In Lörrach, the organizers expect around 1,000 participants at the demo at noon. The young people are supported by Parents for Future, Gandparents for Future and the Lörracher Runden Tisch Klima. Here, too, the demonstrators want to campaign for an import ban on Russian gas and oil. This is necessary for a climate-friendly world, according to the spokeswoman for the Lörrach Friday for Future action group, Leandra Metzner.

Demonstrations in Offenburg, Villingen-Schwenningen and Waldshut

The respective local groups of Fridays for Future are also planning demonstrations in other cities. The first demo started at 11:00 a.m. in Offenburg (Ortenaukreis). The meeting point was at the market square, then around 230 demonstrators moved through the city center. There was a rally at Schillerplatz. The end of the route was back at the marketplace. According to the police, everything has been peaceful so far.

In Villingen-Schwenningen, the demonstrators met at 12:00 p.m. at the station forecourt. They then moved in the direction of Münster. The local group explains on Instagram: “Whether it’s exploitation, displacement, deforestation, oil pollution or global injustice: the cause is usually that profits are put before people. That has to end!” For example, “continuously unimaginable amounts of forest areas would be cut down and thus our livelihoods destroyed for the profit of a few”. The demonstration in Waldshut-Tiengen (Waldshut district) is the last one in the region to start at 7:30 p.m. on the cattle market square.

Actions also in smaller towns in southern Baden

Young people also want to take to the streets in smaller towns in southern Baden: for example in Bad Säckingen (Waldshut district) from 12:15 p.m. on Münsterplatz, in Staufen im Breisgau (Breisgau Hochschwarzwald district) at 4 p.m. on Schladerer Platz and in Oberkrich (Ortenaukreis) on the market square at 2 p.m.
