DRACHTEN – Saturday January 27, 2024 is the last evening for Grootcafé de Swetser in Drachten. Owner Ed Andriessen announced this on Christmas Day via Facebook. “I have now reached the age where I want to make choices. And one of them is to leave the night catering industry behind me. That moment has now arrived.”

Ed started his catering career in the late 1980s at the Jennifeu & Malibu disco in Drachten. In 1999 he started at Swetser, where he soon became co-owner. “In that capacity, I have been able to set up various catering companies with various partners over the years.”

The message on Facebook emphasizes that this is not a matter of bankruptcy. “We will be working towards the end date of Saturday January 27 in the coming period and hope to bring the Swetser period to a successful end together with you.”

Poll: I prefer to spend the weekend…

It has been a tradition for many years now, singing Christmas carols on the first Christmas morning in the streets of Kollum.
