The newlyweds, Diciembre and Tashia Farries, were especially touched that Hanks openly expressed his support for a marriage between two women. “We have been together for a long time and this is the seal of our love for each other. But unfortunately this is still not widely accepted. The fact that a world star like Tom Hanks thinks this is very normal is good for the general acceptance of same-sex marriage.”

Tom asked the women if he could take a picture with them and their son and complimented the couple on their outfits. “It was all so much fun, he was really nice. We also found out that he shares the same birthday with Diciembre’s brother, who died in 2017. His picture is here on a chair and to us this is a sign that he sent Tom here,” the couple said.

It’s not the first time Hanks has unexpectedly “break into” a wedding. In 2016, he was jogging in New York’s Central Park when he accidentally stumbled upon a wedding. Even then he took extensive time to take pictures with the newlyweds.
