A groom in Utah recently went viral after wearing his Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset on his wedding day. Jacob Wright, a software engineer, shared an image on X (formerly known as Twitter) that showed him wearing the $3,500 headset next to his bride, Cambree. The photo quickly gained attention and sparked a wave of curiosity and amusement.
Wright clarified that he did not wear the headset during the ceremony itself, out of respect for his wife and their religious beliefs. However, he did put it on for the post-ceremony photos and during the wedding reception. In an interview with Futurism, Wright explained that he always carries the Vision Pro headset in his backpack. So when the bridal party was taking photos, he quickly jogged to his car to grab it.
“I did not wear it in the ceremony out of respect to God and to my wife,” Wright said. “But after we got out [of the ceremony], we were taking photos…and just jokingly, I was like, ‘Hey, I have my Apple Vision Pro in my backpack.'”
According to SF Gate, Wright asked his wife for permission to wear the headset in the post-ceremony photos, and she eventually agreed. In one widely circulated photo, Cambree holds a bouquet while looking at her husband, who is wearing the Vision Pro headset. Jacob can be seen extending his hand and using finger gestures to control a display that only he can see.
Although Cambree may appear annoyed in the image, she later clarified that she wasn’t as upset as she seemed. The couple saw wearing the headset as a way to capture immersive photos and videos that they can look back on in the future.
“I have a video of me there with all the bridesmaids, all the groomsmen—everyone who came to the ceremony,” Jacob shared. “I think that’ll be super awesome to show our kids in 20 years.”
Wright even speculated that his future family might be able to view the immersive photos and videos as holograms or in some other advanced format.
While the Apple Vision Pro headset has generated significant hype, sales have reportedly slowed down, and some customers have returned the virtual reality product. However, for Jacob Wright, it provided a unique and memorable addition to his wedding day, capturing moments that he and his wife can cherish for years to come.
The image of the groom wearing the Vision Pro headset next to his bride has become an internet sensation, showcasing the growing influence of technology in our everyday lives. It serves as a reminder that even on special occasions like weddings, people are finding ways to incorporate cutting-edge devices into their experiences.
As mixed-reality headsets continue to evolve and become more accessible, it will be interesting to see how they shape our future celebrations and the way we capture and relive our most cherished moments. Perhaps, in the not-so-distant future, wearing a headset on your wedding day will become as commonplace as carrying a bouquet or exchanging rings.
