ANNOUNCEMENTS

In the municipality of Westerwolde, two employees of a health farm were arrested on suspicion of mistreating the residents. It concerns two men aged 62 and 35 from the municipality of Groningen. The police are not ruling out other arrests.

The people who live on the care farm in the village of Wedde are very dependent on care. Since October, the police have received several reports of the treatment site, after which witnesses have been heard. Two of them reported the mistreatment of one or more customers. The police speak of a “worrying and vulnerable situation”.

Investigative journalist Alberto Stegeman also made on-the-spot recordings in October, according to police, after several people involved asked for his help. “These images are in the possession of the police and are part of the investigation,” a police spokesman said RTV North. It doesn’t mean what exactly you see in the pictures.

“Extremely Worrying”

The investigation into the case continues. Both suspects will be questioned in the coming days. “If there is reason to make more arrests, we will certainly do so,” police said. The customers’ families have been notified of the arrests. Additionally, information was shared with the Inspectorate of Health and Youth Care (IGJ).

The inspectorate informs RTV Noord that it has examined the place of care more closely, but does not want to say any more about it. Mayor Jaap Velema van Westerwolde is also aware of the situation. “It is an extremely worrying situation, especially as it affects a vulnerable group of people,” his spokesman told the regional broadcaster.
