FC Groningen tries to rob Ajax of Henk Veldmate (photo right). De Trots van het Noorden wants to bring back the Amsterdammers’ chief scout after seven years, De Telegraaf writes.
In an interview with Groningen director The Telegraph that Veldmate is in the picture with the number seventeen of the Eredivisie. The scout who meant a lot to Ajax will run out of his contract in Amsterdam in a year, while Groningen would like to make him part of the technical policy.
Gudde, however, keeps a low profile about the interest. “I really can’t answer that right now,” he replies. “I can hardly deny that Henk has meant a lot in that area before. As long as nothing is finalized, I cannot go into names.”
Between 1995 and 2016, Veldmate was already active at Groningen in various roles. Most of the time he was director of player affairs in De Euroborg. At Ajax, Veldmate worked very closely with Marc Overmars until a year ago. The main scout of the team from Amsterdam has discovered many players in South America for the team from Amsterdam.
