Grom Nowy Staw lost 0-2 to ŁKS Łódź in the first round of the central Polish Cup. The match between the fourth league team and the first league team took place on Thursday (September 26) on the pitch in Nowy Staw.
It was a historic event for the people of Nowy Sącz. Last season, Grom won the provincial Polish Cup for the first time, which allowed the team to advance to the national stage of the Polish Cup, to which sixty teams qualified. Among them, only four teams currently play in the fourth league, which is actually the fifth level in Polish football competitions.
ŁKS, as a first-league team and a team that played in the Ekstraklasa last season, was the favorite of the match. The team from Łódź “had” to win this match, and only the team from Nowy Sącz could. The guests felt more pressure. This is how the meeting went. ŁKS dominated on the pitch, had the ball more often and created more opportunities to score a goal, but Grom defended effectively. The hosts also had two opportunities, but Mateusz Borowski missed them.
Ultimately, the goals were scored only at the end of the match. The first goal in the 83rd minute was scored by Spaniard Andreu Trasa, who entered the field in the second half. The ŁKS striker also had a hand in the second goal, which was scored in added time, but will probably be counted as an own goal.
ŁKS had the ball for 64 percent of the game. During this time, he fired 15 shots, including 4 at the goal. Grom fired 4 shots throughout the match, including 2 on target. ŁKS also had 10 corner kicks, while Grom had none.
