The ‘Groep van Tien’ is again fighting the curfew in the province of Antwerp at the Council of State. They want to prevent this measure from being enforced again after the heat wave.

The first petition to suspend Governor Cathy Berx’s curfew decision was heard on Tuesday. Only there was no legal ground anymore because the heat wave suspended this measure last week. This does not mean that the curfew is also off. This week, the governor is reviewing whether the curfew should be observed again. That will depend on the number of corona infections.
That is why this group of Antwerp residents is again going to the Council of State. Following them, curfew is absurd and out of proportion. The case will be handled normally on Friday.
“By suspending the curfew last week, the governor prevented a ruling from the Council of State. However, a new police ordinance was written with another curfew. That is why we are now also submitting a new petition. Our arguments against curfew remain. We have an increasing sense that the government is pushing the boundaries of the legal, ”says Aimé Schrauwen, member of the ‘Groep van Tien’.
According to Dirk Melis, also a member of the ‘Groep van Tien’ and CEO of Melis Events, the figures on infections show that the cause is not caused by people who are outside at night.
“Virologists always say that the effect of a measure becomes visible at the earliest two to three weeks after the introduction,” says Melis. “We are already seeing that the figures are stagnating and are starting to decline in Antwerp. The cause of the increase in the number of infections will therefore have to be found elsewhere. ” svw
