GroenLinks wants free masks for minima

The GroenLinks municipal council in Groningen will ask the college questions on Wednesday about the affordability of masks for people with a low income. There is a good chance that mouth masks will soon be mandatory. As far as GroenLinks is concerned, this should not be an additional financial burden for people with a limited budget
yield.

Councilor Nick Nieuwenhuijsen: “The corona crisis affects the most vulnerable in our society in particular. We see this in the field of unemployment – the flex workers and self-employed workers are hit hardest – but also in the field of public health. We have known for a long time that a person with a lower income usually has fewer healthy life years and dies earlier. The pandemic increases this inequality even faster, because the coronavirus mainly affects people with a poorer resistance and people with lower incomes more often do work that cannot be done from home. This increases the risk of exposure to the virus. It is therefore very important that they can protect themselves properly. As far as GroenLinks is concerned, it cannot be the case that a lack of financial resources is a reason not to wear a face mask. ”

The faction therefore wants the Commission to come up with a plan to make protective equipment against the coronavirus as accessible and free of charge as possible for minimum households.
