GroenLinks-PvdA rises in the latest I&O seat poll of November 20 further from 23 to 27 seats and now has as many seats as the VVD. The two parties are in the lead but are being closely followed by the PVV. Wilders now scores 26 seats, six more than last week. This win is thanks to the controversial SBS debate where the editors had a woman ask questions to Frans Timmermans. It was later discovered that the woman was an avid PVV supporter. Jeroen Pauw, producer responsible for the debate, acknowledged to Khalid & Sophie that he was aware of this. This was kept secret from the viewers. Pauw makes no secret of the fact that he has enormous aversion to Timmermans. The woman’s attack worked enormously in Wilders’ favor.
I&O Research writes: When we ask voters why they switch to the PVV, they often say that Geert Wilders was convincing in the SBS debate. A voter who switched from NSC says: “After watching the debate on SBS6, I am more than sure of my choice.”
In addition to the usual xenophobia, PVV members also have the motive that they want to prevent GroenLinks-PvdA from coming into government. They are convinced that the PVV can participate in a cabinet with the VVD. Yesilgöz therefore seems responsible for the growth of the extreme right-wing party. In August she stated that she now saw governing with the PVV as an option. This was still out of the question under Rutte, partly because Wilders was convicted of xenophobia and still refuses to express remorse for his crime.
Furthermore, the poll shows that the VVD with Yesilgöz is still down 7 seats compared to the current number. Timmermans, on the other hand, has managed to grow his party by 10 seats. GroenLinks-PvdA wins with voters who want to counter the rightward movement of the Netherlands. For example, a voter who voted for the PvdA in 2021 but had no preference last week says: “A strategic vote to prevent a completely right-wing cabinet.” The party also attracts voters from Volt, D66 and the SP.
The voter seems to have had enough of Pieter Omtzigt, who announced this weekend after months of hesitation that he wants to become prime minister. His party, until recently the largest, loses another 4 seats and now stands at 21. His continued lack of clarity is the main reason for runaways. BBB is also giving up again and now has 6 seats. The party, which won the elections six months ago, is now smaller than D66. A tour of RTV Utrecht voters learn that the spectacular implosion of BBB is partly because voters now realize that there are more problems than just those of the farmers.
Voters believe that insufficient attention is paid to healthcare (65%) and climate (56%) in the campaigns.
