GroenLinks MP Corinne Ellemeet will stop as a member of the House of Representatives after the elections. In a statement on Twitter, Ellemeet writes that she wants to take a breather after “seven wonderful and very intensive years”.

The 47-year-old Ellemeet has been in the House of Representatives since 2017 and also for a short period at the end of 2014. In the previous elections in 2021, she was in second place on the GroenLinks electoral list.

In recent years, she has devoted herself to amending abortion legislation and giving health care workers more say. In addition to being a care and justice spokesperson, Ellemeet is vice-chairman of the faction and is seen as a confidant of party leader Jesse Klaver.

The harsh climate

In her statement she praises her group, but also politicians from other parties. “The contacts with colleagues and ministers have regularly inspired,” writes Ellemeet. As an example, she cites conversations with then care minister Hugo de Jonge about care for the elderly. “That too is political: sincere shared involvement in the content.”

In the statement, Ellemeet also expresses her concerns, including about “the harsh climate in which politicians have to operate”. She also points to the high work pressure. “I wish our country the very best representatives and a larger parliament so that the workload is relieved.” Ellemeet also said in October that the Chamber should look for ways to make working in the Chamber more pleasant.

Yesterday it became clear that GroenLinks and PvdA are participating in the upcoming elections with one list and one programme. Members of both parties agreed with a large majority.
