Two lawsuits are likely to be filed against Dylan Groenewegen for the serious crash he caused during the opening stage of the Tour of Poland in August. The crash led to competitor Fabio Jakobsen fighting for his life in the hospital.
Jakobsen’s team Deceuninck-Quick-Step has now filed a complaint with the Polish court together with insurance company Europ Assistance and it is very likely that Jakobsen will do the same in the Netherlands. In both cases it will mainly be to make compensation.
“We do not know when the case will occur. As in most legal matters, it may be something of the longer term”, Patrick Lefevere, the sports director of Deceuninck-Quick-Step, told Friday. The last news.
Groenewegen was told by the international cycling union UCI on Wednesday that he must serve a nine-month suspension with retroactive effect. The Jumbo-Visma sprinter may race again on May 7, 2021.
Lefevere does not want to say anything about that punishment. “I don’t feel like talking about it anymore,” said the 65-year-old Belgian. “Not because I’m afraid of the reaction, but simply because it has been enough.”
Jakobsen is now in the right direction. The sprinter recently visited Lefevere. “I was especially shocked by his optimism”, said the sports director. “He is competitive, he wants to return and said he is not afraid.”
