Kunnamangalam (Kozhikode) ∙ A witness has deposed during the trial in the case against civil rights activist Gro Vasu for raising slogans and protesting in the Medical College Mortuary premises in connection with the shooting death by Maoists in West Phase. The seventh witness, Lalu, a resident of Kuttikatur, informed the court that he was not aware of the incident and had not read the statement submitted by the police. The court then declared that the witness had defected as requested by the prosecution.
The court accepted the prosecution’s application to call the fourth witness and re-examine it. Case transferred to 12 for further hearing. The fifth witness Manish, the 13th witness Women’s Cell ASI MV Jayashree and the 14th witness Civil Police Officer P. Sivadasan were examined yesterday. To the magistrate’s question whether there is cross-examination, Gro Vasu replied that this time too there is no. On the last 2 occasions, Gro Vasu was produced in court under heavy police security and taken back to the district jail due to controversies.
Other accused in the case got bail after paying the fine. On July 29, the medical college police arrested Gro Vasu and produced him in the court due to the fact that he had a long pending warrant. The court granted bail on his own, but he was remanded after he was not ready to sign the documents. The Janaka Samithi activists alleged that the police are deliberately trying to prolong the case and are worried about the health condition of the patient Gro Vasu.
