To VG admits the 84-year-old that she both dreads and looks forward to possibly taking the step into Oslo’s city council if she were to be elected.
– I have realized that there is a real possibility or risk that I will meet in the city council and do that job. I’m almost 85, so we’ll see. The important thing is that I will stand for my party, and for Raymond, she says.
The former prime minister is at the bottom of the municipal election list of Oslo Ap in 65th place. But famous people have previously been cumulated into municipal councils, meaning that many voters tick off people on the list they want to give an extra vote.
In the run-up to the election, she has, among other things, visited houses with city councilor Raymond Johansen (Ap) and campaigned from Ap election booths around the capital.
Brundtland was Norway’s first female prime minister. She led three Labor governments between 1981 and 1996 and was nicknamed “the mother of the country”.
She has also held several leading global positions, including as head of the World Commission for Environment and Development in the mid-1980s and as head of the World Health Organization (WHO) between 1998 and 2003.
