Grizzlies run over Warriors, close to securing second place in the West | nba

The Memphis Grizzlies are one step away from securing the second-best record in the Western Conference and the NBA. On Monday night, at home, the team ran over their direct opponent, the Golden State Warriors, by 123 to 95. The main stars were not on the court due to injuries (Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Stephen Curry) or rest. (Klay Thompson and Draymond Green).

With that, the names of the game were Desmond Bane (22 points), Dillon Brooks (21) and DeAnthony Melton (21). On the other side, Jordan Poole scored 25 points, and rookies Moses Moody (18) and Jonathan Kuminga (15) played their parts. But that was it. The Grizzlies reached 53 wins and 23 losses to Golden State’s 48-28. There are six games left for each.

After a balanced first quarter, the home team took off in the second period and never looked back. It even opened 37 points of advantage and ended with 28 after slowing down in the second half. The team won 9 of the last 10 games, even without their main star, Morant, in 6 of them. Memphis’ next challenge is against the Spurs in San Antonio on Wednesday.

The Warrriors have won just one of the last 7 duels since Stephen Curry was injured against the Celtics. The team is coming downhill and the fight is now to maintain the command of the court in the first round of the playoffs. The Dallas Mavericks are just 1.5 behind. Golden State now faces the best team in the NBA, the Phoenix Suns, on Wednesday in San Francisco.

First period – Grizzlies 20 to 16: The home team started better in the game in transition (7 to 0) and, although no player went beyond 5 points, there were 7 who scored. The low score showed Golden State’s difficulty on the offensive side without Curry and Klay Thompson. The use of the perimeter was only 1 out of 9.

Second period – Grizzlies 43 to 21: Dillon Brooks scored 15 points in the partial after passing the first period blank. He led Memphis to a run-down. The Warriors had no response on defense or offense. To top it off, coach Steve Kerr took the second technical foul and was sent off on the way out to halftime. It didn’t feel like Golden State night. Score from 63 to 37 not interval.

Third period – Grizzlies 32 to 30: The Warriors evened the game in the third quarter, but the lead reached 30, ending the period at 28. Jordan Poole already had 23 points, but the rest of the Golden State players did not exceed 11. On the other side, Brooks had 6 , total of 21, and commanded the team. Score from 95 to 67.

Fourth period – Tie at 28: With the game already resolved, both teams were able to rest their holders and think about the next duel. The Grizzlies take a decisive step to secure second place in the West and in the NBA, only behind the Phoenix Suns. The Warriors are still in bad shape without Curry.
