The matches took place in the “Uber” hall in the German capital, where the hosts managed to overcome their initial deficit of 4:8 points. Dimitrov contributed to the final victory on the first day of the competition, defeating the Chilean Alejandro Tabillo. Although Shelton was able to regain the World’s lead with a victory over Russia’s Danil Medvedev in a hard-fought 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 10-7 match, Germany’s Alexander Zverev restored balance, defeating Tiafoe 6-7 (5:7), 7:5, 10:5.
The decisive match turned out to be the clash between Carlos Alcaraz and the American Taylor Fritz. The Spanish tennis player demonstrated exceptional composure and technique, winning with a solid 6:2, 7:5, which brought the much-coveted three points and the overall victory for the European team.
