“Griselda”: Netflix series review
“Griselda”: about the series
“Griselda” is a series set in Miami in the 1970s and 1980s, inspired by the life of the cunning and ambitious Colombian Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most prosperous drug cartels in history. Blanco was a deadly mixture of cruelty that no one expected from her and great personal charm. This allowed her to efficiently combine family life with dark business interests and contributed to giving her the nickname “Godmother”.
Sofia Vergara, an actress previously known for comedy productions, played the role of a ruthless Colombian drug lord in the latest Netflix series Griselda. In order to credibly create a character inspired by Griselda Blanco – a woman whom Pablo Escobar himself was afraid of – she had to completely break with her previous image. This required intensive work by an entire team of specialists.
As Sofia Vergara emphasizes, the goal was to completely disappear behind the heroine. “I didn’t want anyone looking at Griselda to see me or my last character. I wanted to really understand Griselda Blanco’s thoughts and motivations,” says the actress.
