Expressing his enthusiasm for “merging [con] a machine”, the proposal arises from an article shared by the singer, which highlighted a viral hit song called «’Heart On My Sleeve’ that used AI to generate voices inspired by popular artists Drake and The Weeknd . The song garnered millions of views on TikTok and YouTube within hours of being posted, but was later taken down by Universal Music Group, who accused the post of violating copyright laws and denying artists compensation. .
“I will split 50% of the royalties on any AI-generated song that uses my voice. Same treatment as any artist I collaborate with,” Grimes wrote in a tweet. “Feel free to use my voice without penalty. I have no record company, no legal obligations”.
She continued: “I think it’s great to be fused with a machine and I like the idea of opening up all the art and breaking copyright… We’re making a program that should simulate my voice well, but we could also upload stems and samples for that people can train theirs”.
