Grid operator: Utrecht high-voltage grid is at the capacity limit

The company temporarily has no room for new applications for the transport of green electricity from, for example, wind or solar parks or large solar roofs. A solution is probably still a few years away.

According to TenneT, the rapid rise of wind and solar parks requires significant adjustments to the existing grid. It was originally designed to supply power, not feed it back into the grid.

Another factor is that wind and solar parks are realized in areas where there is a lot of space. Electricity cables in these regions are traditionally the thinnest.

Investment

Until 2030, approximately 180 million euros will be invested in the reinforcement of the grids in the province of Utrecht. Smart transformers are also installed. These installations can direct and distribute sustainable electricity, so that the network can ultimately be used better.
