Greysia Polii Don’t Retire First

Greysia Polii asked not to rush to retire after winning the gold medal Olympic. He is expected to wait at least the next six months.

The request was conveyed by the Daily Chair of PB Jaya Raya, Imelda Wiguna, who said that Greysia could be more patient until she found a replacement to accompany Apriyani Rahayu.

“I heard that he really has plans to have children. His name is married, then he wants to have children. It’s just a past experience when in one group there is a champion (preferably) don’t stop immediately. Wait for the bottom to go up,” said Imelda in a virtual discussion Tuesday (3/8/2021).

Imelda said she did not want the experience of the women’s singles when Susy Susanti left to repeat in the women’s doubles. Moreover, women’s doubles are on the rise because of Greysia/Apriyani’s achievements in the Olympics.

“In my opinion, Susy (Susanti) retired too soon. At that time there was indeed Mia Audina, but Mia went to Holland, so there was too high a gap in the women’s singles sector,” said the 1979 All England champion in the mixed doubles and women’s doubles.

“That’s why if I may ask Greysia’s husband (Felix Djimin) to be detained first, why? Half a year or a year because I myself am still giving birth at the age of 40. Greysia also once said, ‘Just come with Ci Imel.'”

Even so, Imelda still left the decision to Greysia and his family. “My only hope is to wait until there is a replacement for Greysia and wait for Apriyani to find the right partner,” he said.

After all, according to the 1975 Uber Cup winner, there are still some young players who he sees as having potential only need to be matured in various international tournaments. Call it Ribka Sugiarto/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, and Yulfira Barkah.

On the other hand, if Greysia still wants to play with Apriyani until the 2024 Paris Olympics, it is hoped that she can take care of herself, even though the competition is predicted to be tougher, especially for Greysia.

“For Greysia, I think it will be difficult for the Olympics in the future. Unless she can take care of herself after having children, because I also experienced it after having a child aged 32 years, playing again 4-5 years is still an achievement,” said Imelda.
