Tokyo –
Menpora Zainudin Amali assess success Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu thanks to the carefree appearance. They were never seeded to be the best.
Greysia/Apriyani donated gold medals for the Indonesian contingent in 2020 Olympics, Monday (2/8/2021). They beat Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan 21-19 and 21-15.
Initially, the women’s doubles sector was actually not relied on to win the gold medal, rather than the men’s doubles which were the top two in the world rankings. But Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon instead fell in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Ahsan/Hendra failed to reach the final and lost the bronze medal. Well, Greysia/Apriyani are said to have benefited from their carefree performances on the field.
“I feel grateful for the achievement of Indonesian badminton women’s doubles at the Tokyo Olympics with a gold medal, which is the first in the history of our participation in the Olympics,” Amali said in a written statement distributed to reporters.
“What I like is that they play freely without a burden, maybe because from the start they were not seeded so the pressure was reduced. Unlike their opponent from China, who has been seeded from the start, they must bear a heavy burden. In this Olympics the atmosphere is definitely different from the world championship (single event). others, the pressure is heavier,” he continued.
Before becoming champions, Greysia/Apriyani had already made a record as the first women’s doubles to reach the Olympic semifinals. The record was even more perfect with the success of winning the final match.
Amali had given encouragement to both of them before this final match. Now Greysia/Apriyani have succeeded in continuing the tradition of badminton gold at the Olympics, which had stopped in 2012.
“Last Saturday I had a chance to talk with Greysia via video call. I would like to say thank you for reaching the final round. I convey that as Menpora does not burden any targets after this, the important thing is to play freely and I invite him to joke a lot to make him relax , said the Golkar Party politician.
“It’s different when releasing them, of course I have to burn the contingent’s spirit, but when I want to face the final round, I don’t do that anymore because I don’t want to be counter productive and even become a burden on them, I am very aware of that. Thank God it’s the right way,” he said. Zainudin Amali.
