Indonesia’s number one women’s doubles Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu qualify for the second round All England 2022. Greysia/Apriyani get rid of the Danish couple.
The sixth seed will face Maiken Fruergaard/Sara Thygesen in the first match at Utlita Arena Birmingham on Wednesday (17/3/2022). Greysia/Apriyani lost in the second game, but finally crushed their opponent 21-17, 20-22, 21-14 in a match that lasted 1 hour 17 minutes.
Thus, Greysia/Apriyani will face Indian women’s doubles Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Pullela for a place in the last eight. It will be the couple’s first meeting.
Faced with Fruergaard/Thygesen, Greysia/Apriyani got quite a tough fight at the start. Although Greysia/Apriyani had taken the lead by five points, Fruergaard/Thygesen followed to cut the gap to 10-11 in the first interval.
Greysia/Apriyani create momentum by taking three points in a row. Fruergaard/Thygesen chased at 14-15, but Greysia/Apriyani raced ahead before winning the first game 21-17.
The second game was even more exciting. Both pairs were chasing points but Greysia/Apriyani won 11-8 in the second interval.
Fruergaard/Thygesen gave a fierce match to Greysia/Apriyani then came back with a score of 18-15. Greysia/Apriyani chased by panning four points in a row to turn around to lead 19-18.
Fruergaard/Thygesen forced a 20-20 deuce, then picked up the next two points to win 22-20, while continuing the game into the third game.
Both pairs are in tight competition for an 8-8 draw. Greysia/Apriyani able to escape the pressure of the opponent without being chased again before winning the game 21-14.
