Greta Thunberg Pleads Not Guilty to Public Order Charge in British Court

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg pleaded not guilty in a British court today to a public order charge brought against her after her arrest at a protest in London last month, Reuters reported.

The 20-year-old environmental activist was detained by police on October 17 after she and dozens of demonstrators joined hands to block the entrances to a hotel hosting an oil and gas conference.

Thunberg became famous as an eco-activist after she started organizing weekly protests in her native Sweden in 2018, and now she travels the world giving speeches at marches and protests, BTA reported.

She was charged by London police on October 18, after which she was released on bail. If found guilty, Thunberg faces a fine of up to £2,500 ($3,069).

Before her arrest in the UK, she was detained by law enforcement at other protests in Sweden, Norway and Germany earlier in the year.
