Gresik –
The chaos that occurred outside the Gelora Joko Samudro Stadium ended Gresik United defeated Deltas FC 1-2 in advanced Liga 2 this season. Gresik Police explained the chronology of the incident.
Reported detikJatim, this riot started when a group of Gresik supporters wanted to demonstrate against the club management. However, their efforts were blocked by police barricades.
The authorities took this step because they were worried that the demonstration would disrupt security, considering that the Deltras FC squad had not yet left the stadium. This is where friction occurs.
The emotional fans started throwing hard objects such as stones. Arguing that in order to avoid causing large numbers of casualties, the police decided to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.
“What happened was that the football broke up, Gresik lost to Deltras 2-1. Then the spectators went home until the stadium was cleaned, in the parking lot there were several supporters who wanted to meet the GU (Gresik United) officials, wanting to ask how it was possible if the direction was that way,” said Kasi Gresik Police Public Relations Inspector Wiwit Mariyanto, Sunday (19/11/2023).
“There was a fence put up there, so they couldn’t get in. In the end, the fans went crazy, they ended up throwing stones or something. In the end, many victims fell, including the Head of Ops who had his head thrown.”
“Then several members of the Regional Police were hit on the head, we remained there. With so many supporters, we couldn’t maintain the situation. If there were many victims, finally action was taken. Measurable action, outside the stadium,” said Wiwit.
Gresik United Media Officer Deni Ali Setiono said the chaos only occurred outside the stadium after the match. “If the match is safe, it’s safe for up to 90 minutes. There’s no problem,” he said when contacted.
