During “Night Day”, a national activity to raise awareness about the fight against light pollution, many cities will turn off public lights this Saturday, October 12. In the three regions of the Alps, several towns participate and organize activities around nocturnal biodiversity.
Don’t forget your flashlight tonight. In Grenoble, public lights will be turned off from 9pm to 11pm throughout the city to make Grenoble residents aware of light pollution and encourage them to look at the starry sky.
Every year, the capital of the Alps takes part in “Day of the Night”, a national activity to raise awareness about the protection of nocturnal biodiversity.
In parallel with the disappearance, activities and events are organized throughout the city, such as an observation session on the cable car platform or a darkness workshop at the Paul Mistral Park.
Many towns in the Grenoble basin (Noyarey, Sassenage, Grenoble, Gières, Seyssinet-Pariset, Le Gua, Claix, Saint-Egrève, Sarcenas) will extend the times to turn off public lights during the 16th.th edition of Day of the Night.
In Savoie and Haute-Savoie, cities are also mobilized to raise awareness among the public about light pollution and the richness of the night environment.
In La Motte-Cervolex, in Savoie, residents can participate in a picnic followed by a walk in the dark from 7:30 p.m. In Modane, an “astronomy and botany” tour awaits volunteers.
While in Haute-Savoie, the town of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois organizes a trip exploring nocturnal wildlife.
A map of all the activities is available on the Jourdelanuit.fr website
In total, more than 500 events across France are organized this weekend to question the role of light and darkness in our daily lives. In the way of energy efficiency, citizens can also participate on their own by turning off the lights in their home that face the outside. And look at a beautiful starry night.
