Rafinha, Bruno Cortez and Diego Souza will not compete in Serie B for the Guild. Today (15), the club from Rio Grande do Sul decided not to renew the contracts, which expire at the end of the month. The decision involves the reduction of the payroll and the plan to reformulate the squad after the relegation.
Cortez has been with Grêmio since 2017, while Diego Souza returned to Porto Alegre in 2020 and Rafinha arrived at the beginning of 2021.
Bruno Cortez’s future has even taken a turnaround in recent days. He went from the board with no news about a possible extension of his relationship to a virtual meeting, about the possibility of remaining in Porto Alegre. The meeting was postponed, but took place on Tuesday (14). Grêmio has informed Cortez’s staff that it will not renew the contract.
Rafinha even indicated that she could stay, but did not open any negotiations.
Diego Souza, on the other hand, divided internal opinions. The team’s goalscorer in 2020 and 2021, the center forward came to be treated as one of the rare cases of permanence, within the list of contracts in the final stretch. But finally, the decision was to release the player.
