Greinke, Royals succumb vs. tigers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Victor Reyes and Austin Meadows had RBI singles in the seventh inning for the Detroit Tigers, who beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 Thursday.

With the score tied 2-2, pinch hitter Eric Haase had the first of three straight two-out singles off reliever Jake Brentz (0-2). Then came hits from Venezuela’s Reyes and Meadows.

Also Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera contributed three of Detroit’s nine hits. He thus placed himself six out of 3,000 in his career.

All of the Tigers’ hits were singles.

Puerto Rican Joe Jiménez (1-0) resolved the sixth inning in white. He was one of four Tigers relievers who combined to allow just one walk to Kansas City’s last 13 batters.

Gregory Soto pitched the ninth inning to earn his second save.

For the Tigres, the Venezuelan Reyes 4-1 with an RBI, Cabrera 4-3 with a run scored. Harold Castro 3-0 with an RBI. The Dominican Jeimer Candelario 4-1 with a run scored.

For the Royals, the Venezuelans Salvador Pérez 4-0, Edward Olivares 1-0. The Dominicans Carlos Santana 3-0, Adalberto Mondesi 3-0 with a run scored.
