Gregory case. Why the day of Wednesday could revive the business?

Will we one day know the murderer of Gregory Villemin ? The investigative chamber of the Court of Appeal of Dijon (Côte-d’Or) must decide, this Wednesday, on the last requests made by the parents of little Grégory, killed on October 16, 1984 at the age of 4.

Christine and Jean-Marie Villemin’s lawyers requested from the Dijon Court of Appeal that new expert opinions be carried out in one of the most enigmatic cases in criminal history in France.

New genetic samples

These requests relate in particular to new genetic comparisons. According to Parisian, nine unknown DNA profiles were isolated in the file: fingerprints found on raven letters, on the tip of the insulin syringe that may have been used to put the child to sleep and on clothes.

Comparisons with the National Automated DNA Registry (FNAEG) have so far never coincided; Neither with people whose profile has been taken since the start of the investigation.

In the end, 129 samples – including a hundred from the more or less distant family unit – were taken. A relatively small number according to one of the couple’s lawyers. “We requested the collection of 37 new people, mainly in the professional world of the protagonists of the time” informed Me Marie-Christine Chastant-Morand to Parisian.

At the heart of the Villemin’s request is also the search for“Kinship DNA”, which makes it possible to compare a genetic fingerprint with others, likely to come from the same family. A method that has been used successfully in a few « cold cases » criminals, as in 2012 in the file Élodie Kulik, raped and murdered ten years earlier.

Genetic robot portrait

Grégory’s parents also request recourse to “Genetic robot portrait”, which allows from a DNA fingerprint to determine the color of the hair or eyes of its owner.

If the courts validated these requests, the results of the expertises, not expected for several months, could provide ” rooms “ interesting to « puzzle » what constitutes this file, hope Me Thierry Moser, lawyer for Christine and Jean-Marie Villemin.

“We have already brought together different materials, different elements. We see who did what, how and why. But knowing it is very good, demonstrating it is another kettle of fish ”, explained to our colleagues from Figaro Me Moser. And to add that “These expertises, if they are ordered, will allow us to go in the right direction and certainly to strengthen what we believe we know now. “

Expertise in “stylometry” expected

In addition, another expertise is particularly expected : that of stylometry ordered three years earlier by the previous judge in charge of the investigation. According to information from Parisian, “This analysis would involve a key player in the dossier. “. But this method is already arousing strong criticism.

The Gregory case was revived in June 2017 when the child’s great-uncle and great-aunt – the Jacobs who had never been questioned before – and Murielle Bolle were indicted, suspected of having committed a collective act with Bernard Laroche. But these lawsuits were later canceled on procedural grounds..

If many actors in the file believe that the case will not be resolved “Only by scientific evidence”, others hope that languages will eventually loosen, like the attorney general of Dijon, Thierry Pocquet du Haut-Jussé: “There are undoubtedly people who know things and who keep them quiet” he confided on Friday to Republican East, before adding “I hope that someday someone will contribute to the search for the truth by saying what they can say. “
