business takeover
Belgian fruit and vegetable trader Greenyard acquires Crème de la Crème, a producer of dairy-free ice cream products and frozen desserts from Hasselt.
With the acquisition of Crème de la Crème, Greenyard is taking a second step into the plant-based ice cream market. Last year, the global market leader in fresh, frozen and prepared fruit and vegetables also acquired the Italian producer of dairy-free popsicles Gigi. Both acquisitions fit in with the strategy to expand the range of frozen dessert snacks with purely plant-based products.
Crème de Crème from Hasselt was founded twenty-five years ago and was one of the pioneers in plant-based alternatives to dairy products. For example, the company makes ice cream and ice cream on a stick.
“We are convinced that the demand for tasty, healthy, pure-plant snack and dessert products will continue to grow,” says Greenyard CEO Francis Kint. The company points out that frozen snacks are a growing market, citing the increase in lactose intolerance and gluten-free diets. The plant-based market will grow by 11.7% between 2023 and 2032. In line with this, the vegan, pure-plant ice cream range is also on track for double-digit growth, with an estimated compound growth rate of 10.8% between now and 2032.
Greenyard did not communicate financial details of the deal.
