Internet portals, quick follow-up services and messenger apps. Last but not least, the corona pandemic has shown that we are increasingly dependent on digital communication channels. Free advertising newspapers and official newsletters also temporarily stopped appearing at the beginning of the pandemic, so that the city administration was only able to make its announcements for a short time by posting or on the city’s website.

Obertshausen – That is why the parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen would also like to use an app as a means of communication in the future.

Safe and reliable communication channels are essential, writes the group. This is why it has now applied for funding of 20,000 euros to set up a village app in the current budget. The Greens would like to use the money to cover the licensing costs for the “village radio”. The special, data protection-compliant app for municipalities was programmed for municipalities by the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) in Kaiserslautern, the Rhineland-Palatinate Development Agency and the Ministry of the Interior in Mainz.

“Funding from the State of Hesse from the” Smart Cities “program and digitization funds from the” Strong Homeland “area should also be applied for to finance the costs,” demand the Greens.

“Corona has awakened the population’s desire for networking outside of social media such as Facebook or WhatsApp,” says the Green Party leader, Klaus-Uwe Gerhard, explaining the request. His group now wants to take this into account by purchasing the app, which offers categories such as chat, news from the administration, search / bids and group chats.

“The included event calendar can also be a support for the local culture and events industry,” added Greens parliamentary group member Katy Walther. Because not every citizen reads the newspaper anymore. “With the app, everyone gets the event tips straight to their cell phone,” she advertises. (By Thomas Holzamer)
